First Step

Project Inception
& Lighting Strategy

We are often brought into projects in the inception stages to help develop overarching lighting strategies that are integral to the overall design. If Lightemotion is engaged at this stage, and depending on the size and complexity of the project, these services can include the development of the lighting brief or conceptual presentation, preliminary sketches and budgets, and even models and mock-ups of potential lighting treatments.

Our passion and knowledge of inspiring possibilities balanced with our appreciation for the essential feasibility considerations ensure that your project gets focused early on achievable lighting strategies and solutions. This stage may include the development of project plans, identification of project deliverables and quality parameters and the calculation of preliminary project budgets.

Next

Design Concept

Development of the design concept can be a crucial step to achievement of the overall lighting strategy. At this stage we carefully listen to our clients to understand the creative goals and practical constraints of the project.

Outcomes from this stage can include a more detailed design brief and the identification of the interface and interactions with the project’s design, architectural and engineering processes. A life-cycle assessment and comparison of potential solutions can be undertaken at this stage to fully inform you of the sustainability and lifetime cost considerations for the solution. In this stage, computer renderings can be produced to support development and communication of the design concept.

Schematic Design

At this stage in your project, the initial design is revealed through a collaborative process between our designers and your team. This stage enables the validation of the design direction with your critical design and budget authorities.

Outputs from this stage include the initial schematic diagrams, a preliminary lighting equipment schedule, lighting control specifications and lighting consumption and output calculations.

Design Development

The detailed design emerges in this stage, again as a product of the collaborative process of our designers and your team. Final lighting layouts are developed and validated, final lighting equipment schedules are produced and the final performance specifications are identified for the lighting control systems. The lighting calculations are updated and compliance with building code and other regulations can be confirmed. In this stage, we will develop designs for any custom fixtures that may be required to realize the lighting design intent.

Construction, Tender Documents
& Procurement Support

If you require, we will provide full support to the tendering process and the specification of associated construction documents. While we are independent from the suppliers of lighting equipment, we are accustomed to dealing with them through the tendering process and are familiar with most product lines and custom development capabilities. We will help to match suppliers to your unique requirements and facilitate a competitive tendering process if you require this type of support.

Construction, Administration
& Commissioning

In this final and crucial stage of your project, we continue to stay engaged to ensure that your design vision is realized. We typically have an on-site presence and attend site meetings with the designers, architects and construction team. Problem resolution, design interpretation and verification and development of schedules of defects related to tendered items are all part of the typical process to successfully achieve closure to the project. Final testing and commissioning complete our role prior to celebrating the achievement of our clients’ initial vision for the project.
