François Roupinian
Principal

François became interested in lighting very early in life, working in avant-garde milieus. In 1997, he was accepted for an internship in Lighting Design at the prestigious Banff Centre for the Arts.

In 1996, he participated in a lighting design seminar at Broadway Lighting Masters Classes in New York.

In 1997, he was admitted directly to the second year in theatre production at the National Theatre School, where he learned to polish and refine his art. He has worked in several fields but mainly finds his vocation in what theatre demands of him. He considers that there is a close relationship between staging and lighting.

A senior lighting designer, François works closely with his clients and is very capable at defining their needs. He produces an appropriate design according to their wishes, specifications and constraints. With his experienced multidisciplinary team, which he supervises at every step, he ensures that the project lives up to his clients’ expectations.

The strong passion guiding his achievements quickly allowed him to build an enviable reputation. He has worked with the greatest theatre artists. He has collaborated with dance and opera companies and lit spectacular shows like only Quebec can produce. His lighting design for AO The Fantastic Legend, presented on Quebec’s biggest outdoor stage, earned him several articles in the most prestigious magazines around the world.

He never strays far from projects where his love of culture can be expressed. He is now working on his fourth museum in Singapore and a museum in New Zealand. Many conservators in Europe and the United States rely on his expertise to give life to their exhibitions.

François Roupinian integrates new ideas and unprecedented concepts into every new project.

Through his passion for his art and his own unique way of bringing a fully theatrical sensibility to major architectural projects, François Roupinian has asserted his presence on the international and national scenes.
